We got a call yesterday from our liver transplant coordinator to let us know that Mikaela was listed for a new liver! She will also be listed for a kidney (hopefully very soon) but, this will at least get the ball rolling. The liver team is going to be in contact with the kidney team to see what else they need to get her listed for a kidney. (we may need to go back to see them-we have not met any kidney transplant surgeons as of yet). The doctors will probably have to appeal for transplant because her liver function numbers are not high enough to meet the criteria for transplant. From what I understand, once the appeal is made and won (in approximately 2 mos) is when we will be waiting for the call from Pittsburgh for her transplant.
As for Mikaela, her tummy is still very puffy and it hurts but she had a few friends spend the night and is now at a friends house. It is good to see her with her friends doing 7th grade girl things. I know she has missed them over the past couple of months. She has an iron infusion & an appt. with her nephrologist here on Tuesday. We are hoping they will tell her she can stop the IV antibiotics-it will be 4 weeks. IF they do, she will still need to keep her PICC line in for about another week or two. Then hopefully, it will get to come out and we will have a nice quiet winter. :)
Thanks for keeping us updated,Heather! Love and prayers always going your way!!
